What you give

There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound and he found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure. The farmer replied, amour Honor, I am primitive. I don't have a proper measure, but I do have a scale." The judge asked, "Then how do you weigh the butter?" The farmer replied "Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker."


What is the moral of the story? We get back in life what we give to others. Whenever you take an action, ask yourself this question: Am I giving fair value for the wages or money I hope to make? Honesty and dishonesty become a habit. Some people practice dishonesty and can lie with a straight face. Others lie so much that they don't even know what the truth is anymore. But who are they deceiving? Themselves

#1025 God listens - Are you talking?

God listens--Are you talking?
======================
It’s gotten to a point where I have begun to wonder if
God is truly listening to me.  Compared to so many others,
my problems are not huge. However, I, like other humans,
do have problems.

Is God listening?

Yes, I keep up with my five daily prayers, but even then, I feel
like I am just going through the motions.

Is God listening?

He has always helped me. No matter where I’ve
been in life, God has helped me with my worries,
fears, and obstacles.

Is God still listening?

I’ve realized that God is always listening, but am I truly
talking with God? In fact, it’s been awhile since I’ve truly talked with God.
A long time since I’ve really engaged with God from the heart.

Perhaps before asking if God is listening, I should ask myself:

Am I truly talking with God?

Wealth of the soul
======================
"Wealth comes not from abundance of goods; rather, wealth is the wealth of the soul."
This hadith really hits home. Praise be to God my family is in a position financially where materialistically we are very comfortable. Yet, at the end of the day, I see everything around me knowing God will test me with my wealth. I am being tested now, (i.e. am I paying my Zakat on time, helping others whether monetarily or through my time, teaching my children about what is important), and I know in the future I may very well be tested like many before me and have it taken away to continue my test.
The wealth of the soul and the peace one can buy through detachment of the worldly gains is one of our biggest obstacles in this world of materialism. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best for oneself or family, but may God grant all of us the ability to see past the fog of our desires clouding our true purpose.
