In the situation

This is the intro to the first chapter in “How to talk so kids will listen & Listen so kids will talk” by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, and it was very profound.
How many of us think we know the solutions to someone else’s problem only come to find out when we are in the situation that those solutions don’t work? Obviously, most come from a very good place when offering suggestions and advice. However, they may not work because we are truly not in the other person’s shoes.
In these situations, the best thing to do is perhaps to listen, and when offering advice to offer it without judgment.
You won’t know how things really are until you are actually in that situation.
