We are not our emotions.

One mistake we most often make is thinking we are our emotions. When we
get upset, angry, frustrated, hurt, etc we start to think that is
WHO WE ARE and that is how we should associate ourselves with.
Some people think they are their emotions that people start associating them
with that emotion. You probably can think of one or two people, can't you? Remember
so-and-so, he is always angry. Or remember so-and-so, stay away from her, she is
always sad.
The thing is we are not our emotions. Our emotions really are separate from us.
Your emotions are separate from your inner you.
And because they're separate, we can feel them in the moment, and if they're
a negative emotion, we can let them go.
There is no need for you to BE that negative emotion. When you are feeling
a negative emotion coming on, let it come then let it pass and move on.
Say in a loud voice: "My inner me is more than this emotion I am feeling right now!"
Let it come then let it pass and move on.
